"The Gift of a Story" is an innovative project with three goals:
1. Get children interested in reading
2. Build stronger relationships between parents and children through the common ground of reading
3. Share the message of salvation to children and their families
The fall/winter 2006-2007 story, You are Special, is written by the well-known Christian author, Max Lucado (click to read more).
It contains a powerful message about God’s unconditional acceptance and love. Everyday the small wooden people called Wemmicks do the same thing; stick either gold stars or gray dots on one another.
The pretty ones, those with smooth wood and fine paint, always get stars. The talented ones do, too. Others, though, who can do little or who have chipped paint, get ugly gray dots.
In this heartwarming children’s tale Max Lucado helps the reader understand that regardless of how the world evaluates them, God cherishes each of them, just as they are.
There is no greater message for children and adults to hear than they are loved unconditionally despite the flaws, the wrong decisions, and unwanted behaviors of others.
In the words of Eli, the stories woodcarver, “Remember you are special because I made you, and I don’t make mistakes.” Our kids need to hear that message!
Here’s how it works:
